The Environmental Humanities Alliance brings together scholars, artists, educators, activists, and community stakeholders who believe that environmental challenges are not only scientific or technological problems—but deeply cultural, ethical, and human ones. We foster interdisciplinary dialogue that connects ecology with the humanities to rethink how we inhabit the world.

Our work exists at the intersection of research, creativity, and action. We explore how stories, histories, languages, images, and cultural practices shape the way we understand our environment—and how these narratives can inspire more sustainable futures.

What We Do

  • Collaborative Research & Knowledge Sharing
We support interdisciplinary research collaborations, working groups, and discussion forums that connect environmental studies, literature, philosophy, history, sociology, cultural studies, anthropology, and the arts.
  • Events, Workshops & Public Engagement
We host reading groups, lectures, community workshops, and conferences that encourage open dialogue and collective reflection on environmental challenges.
  • Creative and Scholarly Output
From exhibitions and documentaries to academic publications, our initiatives celebrate diverse forms of knowledge and expression.
  • Education & Capacity Building
We develop educational resources, course modules, and learning opportunities that integrate the environmental humanities into academic institutions and public programs.

Why Environmental Humanities?

Because climate change is not only about science—it’s about meaning.
Because conservation is not only about policy—it’s about community.
Because solving environmental crises requires empathy, imagination, and narrative change.

The environmental humanities ask:

  • How do art, literature, media, and culture influence our perception of the planet?
  • Whose voices are missing from environmental conversations—and how can we center them?
  • What stories shape our understanding of sustainability, justice, and belonging?

By examining the cultural dimensions of environmental challenges, we open new ways of thinking and new pathways for change.
